Hollywood Foreign Press Association Sues Penske Media Corporation Over Golden Globes Purchase

Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) have filed an antitrust lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles against Penske Media Corporation (PMC). The legal action, initiated on Tuesday, challenges PMC’s 2023 acquisition of the Golden Globe Awards, which the HFPA founded and owned for decades.

The lawsuit alleges that PMC and other involved parties engaged in fraud to secure control of the awards show. According to the filing, the plaintiffs contend that the acquisition was part of a broader effort to consolidate influence within the entertainment industry. The litigation seeks to address claims that the transition of ownership was conducted through improper means.
