Live: Fontainebleau fire contained, but southern Europe on high alert as wildfires rage

Southern Europe is currently facing a series of destructive wildfires driven by a combination of extreme heat, drought, and strong winds. The crisis has resulted in the deaths of three firefighters in Greece, who perished while battling separate blazes on the island of Crete and in the country's southern mainland. Conditions remain hazardous as emergency crews continue to struggle against the intensifying environmental factors.

In France, authorities are managing a massive wildfire in the southwest that is reported to be four times the size of Paris. A large-scale response effort is underway, involving over 2,200 firefighters and more than 20 aircraft, with additional support provided by crews from across France and European partners. Meanwhile, a separate fire in the forest of Fontainebleau has been contained.
